There are many different approaches to writing a song, I may start with developing a melody  and developing a story for it. 

Some people I work with start with the lyrics and find a melody for it.

A typical session could be: 

 

Starting with lyrics : We would look at how to develop a story - A introduction,  developing a story and an ending. Inspiration can come from the a personal experience, a poem, a piece of news, a book or a film. Anything that inspires can be made into a song. 

 

Starting with music or a sequence of chords - Sometimes sounds around us can start a creative process of writing a melody, putting chord sequence together, and  regardless of if you play an instrument or not, you can start using loops that have chord sequences played on different instruments. Then lyric can start to be developed. 

 

My studio is equipped with many instruments and professional recording equipment. 

Some students also learn how to mix and produce their songs.
