I have been a drum tutor since 2007 and my students range from 6 years old to to adults looking for a new hobby.
How do I teach?
I believe that friendly and relaxed atmosphere encourages learning and that’s what my lessons are like.
I start teaching by establishing some foundations and basic drumming skills, which are later used in drumming along to a piece of music.
I encourage my students to choose songs that they like to listen to, songs that inspire them; songs that they are interested to drum to. I do, however have lots of music to choose from.
Together we listen to the piece of music, break down the drum parts, establish the dynamics, main groove, patterns and drum fills, within the arrangement of the song.
I play other instruments and encourage more experienced students not only to play along to songs but also to create their own arrangements and improvise with me and and other musicians.
I do not currently prepare students for grades. I do however help and encourage students’ development into their own drumming and creative style in a friendly and enjoyable environment.
